How to set your level honestly
Level matters even more in padel than in tennis, because it is played as doubles: a big gap inside the four spoils the game for everyone on court. A practical guide:
Beginner
First times on court. You are still learning to play the ball off the wall, and the underarm serve is not yet reliable.
Intermediate
You use the glass comfortably, you keep the ball in play, and you know when to lob and when to move up to the net with your partner.
Advanced
You play the walls deliberately, you hit bandeja and víbora, and you move as a pair in coordination with your partner.
If you are torn between two levels, pick the lower one. The Elo rating will correct the estimate within a few matches.
How padel differs from tennis
If you are coming from tennis the basics carry over — but not all of them. The main differences:
- The court is smaller and enclosed by glass and mesh; the ball stays in play off the walls
- The racket is solid and stringless, and noticeably shorter
- The serve is underarm, after the ball has bounced
- It is played almost entirely as doubles — you need four
- Positioning and communication with your partner matter more than power
Where and when padel is played in Greece
Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in Greece and new courts keep appearing, particularly around Attica and Thessaloniki. Because most courts are floodlit and many are covered, it plays comfortably year-round. Peak hours are weekday evenings and weekends, so a four is usually put together a few days in advance.
